Port Vendres

Port-Vendres is a commune in the Pyr�n�es-Orientales department in southern France. A typical Mediterranean fishing port, situated near the Spanish border on the C�te Vermeille in south west France, Port-Vendres is renowned for its numerous fish and sea food restaurants.

Locals insist that Christopher Columbus was born here, in the one Genoese city on Corsica that the French could never capture, while Admiral Nelson lost his right eye besieging the citadel on behalf of Pascal Paoli.

The capital of the C�te d'Azur, and France's fifth largest city is well known for its Mediterranean beaches, casinos, and upper-class resort facilities along the famous Promenade des Anglais -a long boulevard along the famous Nice beaches. The old city Vieux Nice is richly blessed with fine art museums, including world-class collections of Matisse and Chagall.
